The 2014 edition’s third-placed team, Nigeria put up an inspiring performance to crush Niger 4-1 in their African Nations Championships opening match on Monday.
Earlier, debutants Guinea came from behind twice to earn a deserved 2-2 draw with Tunisia in a match which saw the two opposing strikers each grab a brace.
Nigeria sits top of Group C, followed by Tunisia, Guinea and Niger.
In Group D, Isaac Chansa scored the only goal of the game to give Zambia victory over Zimbabwe in the opener.
Later on Tuesday, Uganda and Mail shared spoils in their Group D opener leaving Zambia on top of Group D after Match-day 4.
